Blogging has become part of the popular culture in our daily life, and its existence is important in delivering any information to the masses. Ever since the invention of blog, the world of mass communication has reached a whole new level in terms of presenting and delivering news and other important and not so important information to the curious public. Personal blogging is essential, especially to those who crave attention, feedback, freedom of expression, and a wide audience that comes from all over the world. Those who could benefit from personal blogging include business people and public figures such as politician, humanitarian, or celebrity.
Personal blogging could also be used as a tool in marketing yourself or your products, services, and even documenting on the journeys of your life. Back in the early days, the pioneers of the blogging industry didn't even know what they were doing, and even the word 'blog' hasn't been invented yet. Truth be told, blogging has existed since the early invention of the internet, although it took some time for the big leagues to come up with a name and develop the genre. In January 1994, a student named Justin Hall had created what could be the first blog ever, which is called Links.net (the page is still exist even today), and ever since then, the others follow suit.
In December 1997, an online diarist called Jorn Barger coined the term 'weblog', which basically means 'logging the web'. Two years later, a programmer named Peter Merholz had shorten the term 'weblog' to just 'blog'. The free blog-creation service was first launched in the same year. For those not in the know, the term 'dooced' is popular among the blogaholics, which means 'fired for blogging', as a blogger named Heather Armstrong is fired for discussing her job on her blog, Dooce, back in February 2002.
During the month of June in 2003, Google had launched AdSense, which is a matching advertisement to blog content. Almost a year and a half later, the Merriam-Webster dictionary declared 'blog' as the 'Word of The Year'. And in January 2005, a study conducted on blog has found that almost 32 million Americans read blogs, which was astonishing news. The trend of personal blogging has also been around in Malaysia since the past decade, and most of Malaysians who blog are documenting on their own personal lives.
Such documentaries may include personal view on the current political scene, food journal/ critic session, travel journeys (in blogging world, it is often called 'travelogue'), and personal opinions on lifestyle. Making a documentary through personal blogging could reach audiences that might have the same views and opinions as you are, and the more interesting and appealing your documentaries are, the more followers you'll get flocking to your blog. The downside of personal blogging is that when it comes to criticizing the political scene, you might end up being accused as a threat and could be detained by the government.
